A Wizz Air flight from Prague to Cyprus landed safely at Larnaca on Friday after a bomb threat, with all passengers unharmed.

Flight W64600 touched down at 2.05pm, 30 minutes after its scheduled arrival of 1.35pm. Police said the threat was made before the aircraft left Prague, and that Czech security services searched the plane before it continued its journey. Standard procedures were followed on arrival, where the aircraft was sent to the old airport terminal as a precaution.

The report said sources at the defence ministry had placed the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre on standby. The centre coordinates search and rescue operations after aviation and maritime accidents.

One of nine flights at Prague

The flight was one of nine at Prague airport targeted on Friday. Four were arrivals, from Denmark, Britain and two from Spain. Five were departures, bound for Cyprus, the Netherlands, Romania, Italy and Britain.

The airport said operations remained normal and smooth, and declined to give further details of the flights involved. Czech police had checked four aircraft on Thursday after related warnings.

Warnings were also received for two flights to Sofia, one from London Stansted and one from Brussels, and both landed safely, a Bulgarian transport ministry spokesperson said. Portuguese police said a Ryanair flight due to leave Lisbon for Rome was targeted.

Dozens of commercial flights have been affected across Europe this week. Some aircraft were diverted, while others were escorted by fighter jets.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility, and officials have not said whether the alerts are connected.

What is not known

The reports did not say whether anything was found on board the Larnaca flight, or whether the threat is being treated as a hoax. They gave no indication that other flights at Larnaca were delayed or diverted on Friday.
